PLUME, NEW HAVEN

This site is an area-wide groundwater contaminant plume and associated contaminated soil. The principal contaminant is tetrachloroethylene (PCE) which was used during industrial processes by several entities in New Haven. The PCE was first detected in the two public supply wells in 1986. These wells were closed and two additional water supply wells were installed. During the 1990s, an active industrial facility (Kellwood site) removed soil contamination and installed a french drain. Contamination continues to exist at this site and several operable units throughout the city and in the nearby area have been developed to address the problem.
