ADAMS STREET AND CR 25A
The West Troy Contaminated Aquifer (WTCA) Site is located in the city of Troy, Miami County, Ohio. The Site consists of a groundwater plume of chlorinated volatile organic compounds (VOC) that have adversely impacted water quality in the local sand and gravel aquifer. The aquifer is a source of drinking water in the area and supplies water to the City of Troy’s West Wellfield. Groundwater contamination was first detected in a city well in 1986. Tetrachloroethene (PCE) is the primary VOC detected in the city well and in the groundwater plume. In particular, PCE has been detected in city production well PW-12W at concentrations above the EPA Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) established under the Safe Drinking Water Act. The PW-12W city prodoction well is currently being pre-treated with the inclusion of air stripping before it is combined with other city production wells and enters the city treatment plant. Previous investigations have indicated that the contamination originated from one or more sources on the west side of the Great Miami River (GMR). The source or sources have not yet been identified. The plume is believed to originate at or near the former Wampler Buick/GMC (507 Elm Street) and Affordable Auto (515 Elm Street) properties. Site Responsibility The site is being addressed through federal lead and state supported actions.
