S MARBLE TOP RD
The 10-acre site is 0.6 miles south of Highway 136 and 0.2 miles east of South Marble Top Road in Kensington, Walker County, Georgia. The site includes a 1.25-acre, grass-covered landfill area and forested land. A mobile home residence is located 400 feet southwest of the site. Undeveloped forested land surrounds the site. The site’s broader surroundings include agricultural and undeveloped land as well as low-density residential areas. From 1974 until 1980, a landfill operated at the site. The landfill included three disposal areas: Areas A, B and C. In 1974, Georgia EPD identified a milky discoloration on the ground near the northeast portion of the landfill and required that the property owners stop accepting latex wastes and industrial solid wastes. In 1980, Georgia EPD determined the landfill did not meet the requirements of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and Georgia's Hazardous Waste Management Act and closed the landfill. In 1989, EPA listed the site on the NPL. Currently, the site is unused. The property owner has expressed interest in reusing the site for agricultural, industrial or commercial purposes.
