The 55-acre landfill located in Centralia, Washington, operated from 1958 until 1994 and accepted both municipal and industrial waste including soil containing polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), paint waste, and pesticide waste. More than 12,000 people living within three miles of the site use groundwater for drinking. The creek is a spawning area for salmon.
