The 50-acre site is located approximately two miles south of Pontiac in Richland County, South Carolina. The site includes several buildings and parking lots for the commercial and industrial businesses located on site. Industrial and commercial businesses border the site to the north, south and west. Undeveloped land borders the site to the east. Nearby land uses include industrial, commercial and residential uses. In 1964, metal products manufacturing began at the site. Items manufactured included office recording equipment by the Dictaphone Corporation, Inc. and the saw chain component of chain saws by Textron, Inc. From 1964 until 1981, operations discharged wastewater on to the ground in a low-lying area next to the facility. In 1990, EPA listed the site on the NPL. In 2002, Centerline Development, LLC subdivided the site property into 10 areas of varied sizes for commercial development. Commercial development occupies 35.5 acres of the site property’s original 50 acres. Centerline Development, LLC retains ownership of the remaining 14.5 acres. A veterinary hospital, a kennel, a hotel, an auto-body shop, office buildings, an industrial park, two retail stores, a gas station and two restaurants operate on site. AMBAC International (formerly American Bosch), a manufacturer and supplier of fuel injection equipment, currently operates at the former manufacturing facility.
