The Peninsula Boulevard Groundwater Plume Site is a tetrachloroethylene (PCE or perc) groundwater plume located in Hewlett, NY, which has an unknown source. The groundwater flows towards the northwest, in the direction of the Long Island American Water Plant 5 Well Field, a source of drinking water. Since April 1991, the Plant 5 well water has been treated by a packed tower aeration system (i.e., air stripper). The EPA proposed the Site on the National Priorities List (NPL) on March 7, 2004. The NPL is the list of national priorities among the known releases or threatened releases of hazardous substances, pollutants, or contaminants throughout the United States and its territories. The NPL is intended primarily to guide the EPA in determining which sites warrant further investigation. The Peninsula Boulevard Groundwater Plume Site was listed on the NPL on August 23, 2004. Site Responsibility: This site is being addressed through Federal actions.
