pike and mulberry streets pce plume

INTERSECTION OF PIKE AND MULBERRY STREET

The Pike and Mulberry Streets PCE Plume Superfund Site is located in downtown Martinsville, Indiana. It was discovered from investigations conducted at the nearby Master Wear facility, a former industrial drycleaner that released chlorinated solvents to the soil and ground water during its operations from 1986 to 1991. Potentially responsible parties for the Master Wear facility conducted a removal action at the site with the EPA's oversight in 2004 through 2008. Since then, tetrachloroethylene (PCE) has been found in the city's drinking water supply and levels have continued to increase (the city currently treats this water using activated carbon before providing it to it's customers). Site Responsibility The Master Wear facility is a possible contributor to the plume and there appear to be other possible sources of PCE contamination in the Martinsville area that may be contributing to the plume contamination. Information on other possible contributors may arise during the remedial investigation.
