9510 E BROADWAY #20
The site is located in a commercial area of Tampa, Florida, approximately one quarter-mile west of U.S. Interstate 75. The site includes the 17-acre Southeastern Galvanizing (SEG) property, the 11-acre Southeastern Wire (SEW) property and the 1.75-acre North Wetland. The SEW property is located southeast of the SEG property. The North Wetland is located along the western border of the SEG property, in an electrical utility right-of-way. The Peak Oil Co. /Bay Drum Co. Superfund site is located south of the SEG property, along State Road 574 and west of the SEW property. Industrial and commercial land uses surround the site. Beginning in the 1960s, SEG facility operations generated process wastes and sent the wastes to the SEW facility for neutralization and discharge to on-site storage ponds. In 1983, EPA listed the site on the NPL. In 1996, Industrial Galvanizers of America began leasing a 10-acre portion of the SEG property; the company’s hot-dip galvanizing operations at the site are ongoing. In 2001, Master-Halco, Inc. purchased the SEW property and operated a wire fence manufacturing facility on site. Fencing surrounds the Industrial Galvanizers of America and Master-Halco, Inc. areas of the site.
